Project Selborne is a Transformational Training programme with a strategic goal of modernising Royal Navy training to deliver "better trained sailors to the front line faster".

The Damage Repair Instructional Unit (DRIU) is a modular hydraulic Unit. It simulates ships that have sustained damage ether alongside in port or at sea in a war time scenario. The Unit moves from side to side giving a dynamic moving training environment. Damage Repair Teams of students will then undertake simulated training in a real-life water environment, where they have to reduce /stop the ingress of water in one of the Unit's compartments.

Your role as Instructor will be to deliver damage Control Instruction utilising specific equipment within a structured simulator.

Job Description:

What you will be doing:
  • Delivering a high standard of theory and practical Instruction on Damage Control Techniques
  • Coaching and Mentoring students undergoing training to support CBRNDC onboard Royal Naval Vessels
  • Maintaining both the training area and equipment used for training
  • Providing a duty of care for the students under your control

What we're looking for:
  • Previous experience in a teaching/guiding/tutoring role would be highly desirable
  • Confident talking in front of groups
  • Experience in the Maritime Sector (Military/Civilian)
  • Good MS Office knowledge including PowerPoint
  • Must be able to train in hot and cold conditions
  • Previous experience in the Royal Navy would be an advantage
  • Comfortable being in a confined space under water
  • Must be able to be cleared to UK SC level.
About Project Selborne

Project Selborne is a wide scale, 12 year transformation of Royal Navy Training. The contract worth GBP 1 billion was awarded in December 2020 to a consortium led by Capita to deliver and modernise training for the RN. The consortia of partners known as Team Fisher includes Raytheon UK, Fujitsu and University of Lincoln together with 14 other UK-based suppliers.
