POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Surveyor, Rodman performs basic surveying tasks and provides support to the Surveyor on all his/her duties related to surveying. This includes performing standard and recurring tasks to contribute to the execution of the general survey field duties as assigned. Assists in making exact measurements and works from engineering plans to establish lines and grades. Provides data relevant to the location, elevation, or dimension of land or land features for construction purposes.
YOUR ROLE
- Operates electronic total station instrument, transit, level, GPS equipment and other surveying instruments.
- Ensure all materials, tools, equipment and information is loaded in the survey truck each day. Maintains a clean, neat, organized truck with supplies.
- Understands/reads basic project plans, drawings, diagrams and specifications.
- Sets and marks stakes for slopes, grades, alignment and other construction purposes.
- Assists Surveyor in determining lines, corners, elevations, grades, alignments, angles, positions and distances.
- Assists Surveyor in documenting engineering notes and records of data secured for each jobsite.
- Maintains a professional working relationship with Inspectors, sub-contractors, vendors and fellow employees.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU BRING
- 2+ years of experience within the construction industry preferred
- Demonstrates a high level of strength and endurance, as the position is physically demanding
- Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness in the quality of the work
- Demonstrates the ability to complete the work in a timely manner
- Demonstrates good eye-hand coordination, balance and depth perception
- Demonstrates effective written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrates a sense of urgency in responding to all situations.
- Demonstrates the ability to work in several diverse locations, as work locations change regularly, and ability to work varying schedules. Overtime and weekend work are required, as necessary.
- Demonstrates ability to collaborate and work effectively as a team.
- Demonstrates responsibility in reporting to work on a consistent and timely basis.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The Rodman position demands physical stamina and the ability to work in diverse outdoor environments. Candidates must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, walk long distances over various terrains, and occasionally work in adverse weather conditions. The role involves prolonged periods of standing, bending, and kneeling while setting stakes, taking measurements, and operating surveying instruments. Manual dexterity and coordination are essential for handling precise tools and technology. Additionally, candidates must be able to work safely at heights and in potentially challenging conditions, such as uneven ground or confined spaces.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Must be willing to travel within the State of Texas as needed, overnight or out of town stay may be required.
