About Potash

The Jansen project in Saskatchewan, Canada is set to become one of the largest potash mines in the world and is located approximately 140 kilometers east of Saskatoon. BHP’s CAD$14 billion (US$10.5 billion) investment in the Jansen project will deliver a potash mine in Saskatchewan designed to maximize sustainability. As the largest investment in Saskatchewan’s history, Jansen is expected to generate approximately 5,500 workforce opportunities during construction and 900 long-term roles.

Purpose

The Specialist Emergency Response will supervise the Field Response Team(s) in the execution of emergency responses, fire safety and rescue equipment inspection programs, training, rescue planning and community engagement.

Work Location

This role will be based at the Jansen Mine Site located in Leroy, SK with a 7 X 7 rotational work schedule. Day shifts and night shifts apply to this role. As this role is not eligible for accommodation in the site camp, the incumbent must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the Jansen site.

About the Role

In this role, you will:

  1. Develop policies and procedures that provide direction for safe and effective emergency response operations.
  2. Respond to and improve the effectiveness of emergency response services to uplift organizational capability in managing emergencies/incidents.
  3. Identify and engage external stakeholders that may be involved in an emergency event at the BHP Jansen site.
  4. Provide direction and oversight for projects related to emergency management.
  5. Identify and assess risks, make risk informed decisions, use BHP's risk management framework, and build a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes.
  6. Manage resources towards ensuring the fire safety inspection and audit program is executed as planned and entered into SAP.
  7. Ensure all team members are meeting the required field leadership obligations.
  8. Ensure all mine rescue and emergency response equipment is inspected and maintained in compliance with site standards and regulatory requirements.
  9. Responsible for monitoring, executing, and documenting the training requirements of the field response teams.
  10. Participate in the planning and execution of emergency exercises with field response teams and stakeholders.
  11. Act as a liaison with operations and construction work planning functions and develop rescue pre-plans as required.
About You

Demonstrated experience in emergency response, preferably within the industrial or mining sector. Certification in First Aid and CPR is required. Professional/Industrial/Volunteer Fire Fighting experience is highly advantageous. Possession of mine rescue certification is beneficial. Knowledge of relevant health, safety, environmental regulations and standards. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to train and instruct others effectively. Proven problem solving skills and critical thinking abilities.
