The RoleThe Sender Security and Authentication Product Group is looking for a Staff Software Engineer (title based on experience) to join our backend team. This team is responsible for collecting data on Email Traffic, Threat Detections, Domain Registrations, IP Addresses, DNS Record, Senders, Suppliers, etc. and using aggregation, algorithms, and machine learning to construct a comprehensive data set to help our customers secure their electronic communications and stop bad actors. We process more than 30-40TB of data per day, and use a combination of parallel processing, large scale aggregation, machine learning, and data warehousing technologies to feed data to analysts, customers, and other Proofpoint products. Identity Defense is undergoing explosive growth, and we need smart, motivated, and creative engineers to help stop scammers, phishers, and other attackers from using identity deception to compromise targets across the internet.
Your day-to-dayConfigure and maintain databases and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security in development, test, stage and production environments.
Own and manage uptime and performance SLAs. Ensure availability/recovery with minimal downtime.
Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
Perform scheduled maintenance, support release deployment activities and apply new patches and versions when required.
Work with Development team, guide developers on following best coding practices to write optimal & efficient code.
Writing SQL, including stored procedures, functions, views, and triggers.
Complex query analysis and troubleshooting.
Fine-tuning queries to be optimal and efficient.
This is a remote opportunity.
What you bring to the teamMust have a minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited school in an engineering related field.
7+ years software development experience.
Must have significant experience with SQL and NoSQL databases; Experience with PostgreSQL highly desired.
Must have experience in high-uptime customer-focused environments.
Must have experience developing complex SQL statements and performance tuning.
Must have experience maintaining and upgrading databases.
Proficient software development skills in a “back-end” data processing/server environment highly desirable.
Experience leading projects in a technical capacity, including architecture and design as well as developing coding standards highly desired.
Experience developing database business continuity, disaster recovery and back up plans.
Experience with Agile release methodology.
Good interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate effectively, combined with excellent written and oral communication skills.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets as set out below. Pay within these ranges varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate. The range provided may represent a candidate range and may not reflect the full range for an individual tenured employee. This role may be eligible for variable pay and/or equity. Base Pay RangesSF Bay Area, New York City Metro Area: Base Pay Range: 240,640.00 - 330,880.00 USD
California (excludes SF Bay Area), Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Washington DC Metro, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Texas, Washington, Virginia, and Alaska: Base Pay Range: 197,760.00 - 271,920.00 USD
All other cities and states excluding those listed above: Base Pay Range: 177,200.00 - 243,650.00 USD
