The Jacobs Cities & Places (C&P) team create thriving places across different scales - from regions to cities, neighbourhoods to individual buildings and all through an integrated design approach. Our business unit brings together engineers, architects, surveyors, urban designers, project managers, procurement managers and construction staff to provide collaborative and coordinated value design solutions for our clients, both nationally and internationally.
An opportunity has arisen within C&P to support our projects as Construction Design Management (CDM) Lead. This position plays a proactive, visible, and diligent role during all aspects of Engineering & Design work to ensure that the teams are meeting the intent of the CDM 2015 Regulations, company work instructions and Client requirements.
The candidate should have appropriate experience in the application of the CDM Regulations in the design and construction of built environment assets. The candidate should set the tone and culture for Health and Safety in Design on projects, as well as challenging the norm and encouraging innovation to make designs safer considering the assets whole lifecycle. The candidate will be comfortable in challenging designs to eliminate and mitigate design hazards which may arise.
- Full-time employment with us is based on 40 hours per week
- This role is based on a hybrid basis from one of our key UK offices
- Frequent UK travel is required for the successful delivery of this role
Responsibilities will include
- Advising project teams on the requirements of CDM Regulations 2015 and de5ign (Our Sustainable Design Management Process)
- Reviewing the project CDM Execution plan to ensure it is compliant with Jacobs Work Instruction and Legislation
- Facilitate CDM internal training (as required) and Safety in Design review workshops
- Complete HSEiD audits of the project at appropriate stages
- Proactively support and facilitate competency assessment of designers and contractors / subcontractors
- Proactively support coordination and collaboration between design stakeholders to ensure that there are no gaps in design knowledge exchange
- Undertake site visits (where appropriate) to understand specific site design issues (UK Wide)
- Assist the Project Manager in the collation of information for the Safety File and Pre - Construction Information (PCI)
- Undertake additional tasks as required for compliance with the CDM 2015 Regulations
- At least 5 years’ experience in the application of the CDM Regulations in the design and construction of built environment assets
- NEBOSH certificate (desirable)
- APS Principal Designer qualification or equivalent (desirable)
- CDM Principal Designer, Principal Contractor and / or Designer training
- Strong knowledge and experience in applying CDM Regulations
- Proven capability to influence designers and design stakeholders on their legal CDM duties
- High level of written and verbal communication skills
- Highly developed inter-personal skills – team player
- Frequent UK travel is required for the successful delivery of this role
