The role
Orbit is delighted to announce that we are recruiting for an Environmental Advisor to join the Sustainability team in supporting the ongoing development and implementation of Orbit’s environmental management system and maintenance of environmental certifications. The role will focus on delivery of the environmental advisory service, supporting operational staff to deliver on their environmental responsibilities and providing assurance of Orbit’s compliance with legislative and other requirements as identified in the management system.
This role will be well suited to an individual with a passion for environmental sustainability that is eager to be part of a business that genuinely cares about making a difference. In this role, you’ll further your knowledge of environmental sustainability, being at the forefront of change and identifying and implementing opportunities for continual improvement.
This role can be fulfilled from any of our Orbit locations, with our generous agile working policy applied, in offices across the Midlands, the South East and the East. The successful candidate will need to be happy to be travelling at least 1-2 times a week, visiting our sites across all of our Orbit locations.
What you'll achieve
Support the Environmental Sustainability Manager in the ongoing development, implementation, oversight and reporting of the Environmental Management System (EMS). Visiting Orbit construction sites, Orbit offices and Independent Living Schemes and ensuring guidelines are met and implementing new ways of working, in line with the ISO14001 certification.
Develop and lead on delivery of the environmental advisory service, supporting and advising operational and management staff to deliver their environmental responsibilities and enhance environmental knowledge and skills within the workforce.
Support the Environmental Sustainability Manager in preparing environmental reports and management reviews and Procurement colleagues with the inclusion of environmental considerations in purchasing and contract management activities.
Identify opportunities for innovation projects, waste and emission reduction measures and partnerships with external stakeholders to support Orbit’s values and improve environmental performance.
Support the functioning of the IEMA-approved Orbit training centre with course organisation, assessments and certificates, and promote the Orbit Earth strategy and inspire colleagues to carry out sustainable practices across the business.
Lead and/or support the Environmental Sustainability Manager on the collection and analysis of environmental data.What you'll bring
Essential skills
A passion for, and up to date knowledge of, environmental sustainability. Previous experience within a similar environmental or sustainability role, or recent education in the field.
Willingness to travel to Orbit Midlands, South East and East sites 1-2 times per week (driving license and own car required) and an ability to work independently from home.
Experience with environmental management systems certified to ISO14001.
Experience working with relevant regulators and advisory bodies (Environment Agency, Defra, etc.).
Experience conducting site advisory visits, internal audits, and incident investigations.Why Orbit?
