Job Description
To undertake a two-year apprenticeship work-based training course with a day release "college day" leading to a recognised academic qualification (BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians
To attend a college of further education on a day-release basis either virtually or physically while working in the pharmacy department depending on the education provider selected.
To rotate through all sections of the pharmacy department gaining experience in all aspects of the pharmaceutical service of the Trust.
To work and gain experience in all sections of the pharmacy department on a rotational basis, under the supervision of the Section Manager. Sections to include Distribution, Dispensary, Procurement and Medicines Management

Job description
Job responsibilitiesTo work and gain experience in all sections of the pharmacy department on a rotational basis, under the supervision of the Section Manager. Sections to include Distribution, Dispensary, Procurement and Medicines Management
To read and adhere to the Trusts and Pharmacys Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Policies.
To attend Mandatory Trust and Regional Pharmacy training and education study days.
To attend Section/Departmental meetings as appropriate.
To attend a designated college of further education on a day-release basis or login virtually depending on the education provider selected.
Meet with the Principal Pharmacy Technician regularly.
To participate in the late night, weekend, and Bank Holiday rota as required.
Dispensary:
To perform reception duties in the absence of pharmacy support workers.
To dispense prescriptions for hospital inpatients and outpatients, discharge prescriptions, and Controlled drugs for all service users.
To undertake stock management in the dispensary e.g., daily stock checks, checking expiry dates
To ensure that all activities carried out in the Dispensary follow departmental Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs)
To assist with maintaining accurate patient & stock records and information by correctly using the Ascribe computer system.
To assist in the maintenance of adequate stocks and stock rotation within the dispensary
To undertake counselling of patients on the use of their outpatient medication (after a suitable period after other competencies are met)
To undertake the Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician theory and practical training - which must be completed within the two-year contract.
Distribution:
To participate in the ward stock, top up scheme regularly including audit of stock.
To assist in maintaining stocks of ready-packed items in the distribution area and in issuing stocks to wards and clinics.
To assist in the receipt, unpacking, and storage of incoming stock.
To assist in the maintenance of adequate stock levels and stock rotation in the stores.
To use the computer stock control system effectively and accurately for the issue of pharmaceuticals from a ward profile and ad-hoc stock requests.
To assist in the disposal of waste products within the department.
Prepare and maintain work areas in a clean and tidy fashion and to the required standard as requested.
Medicines Management
To understand the basic principles of the workings of a Medicines Management Service
Assess the suitability of patients own drugs (PODs) for re-use during admission and on discharge according to Trust Policy.
To support the medicines management technicians with Drug History taking being supervised at all times.
To complete the internal medicines optimisation modules during the medicines management rotations
To complete the medicines optimisation training within the two-year contract.
Procurement
Assisting with the invoicing team Mail
Assisting with the management of Wholesaler Invoice Trays
Filing of signed Pharmacy Purchase Orders
Processing Homecare prescriptions according to the procedure
Assisting with Supplier Statements
Processing the Insulin Pump Homecare invoices
Assisting the Pharmacy Purchasing Manager by chasing suppliers for information on to- follows.
Raising and Sending Purchase Orders to suppliers
Process Eye Spreadsheets and recharges at patient level
Payment of miscellaneous invoices including Direct Suppliers and Homecare
General Responsibilities
To support the department and organisation by carrying out any other duties that reasonably fit within the broad scope of a job of this grade and type of work.
Person Specification
QualificationsEssential- 4 GCSEs Maths , English, Science and one other subject at grade C (4) or above
- retail experience
- any pharmacy work experience
