The salary range will be £35,000+ DOE (inclusion on the bonus scheme after 6 months)
Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 4:30.
Adept have been retained by a leading materials testing company based in Sheffield. They are seeking an experienced Machine Shop Manager to oversee, develop, and optimise the operations of a precision machining department.
This department plays a vital role in producing high volumes of precision test piece samples for use in mechanical and metallurgical laboratories, working with various materials including nickel alloys, stainless steels, and alloy grades.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the successful candidate will manage the day-to-day operations of a busy machining facility, equipped with bandsaws, manual lathes, and CNC machines. The role combines hands-on shop-floor involvement with strategic office-based management to ensure smooth operations and optimal performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Control & Planning: Coordinate production schedules in collaboration with the production and laboratory management teams.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and manage team performance, ensuring quality output, maintaining discipline, managing attendance, holidays, and shift schedules.
- Health, Safety & Quality: Ensure compliance with health, safety, and operational procedures to maintain a safe and efficient working environment.
- Machine Maintenance: Oversee the performance, servicing, and repair of all machine tools in the facility.
- Procurement: Manage the procurement of shop-floor consumables and raw materials to support operations.
What We're Looking For
- This is a critical leadership role requiring close collaboration with other managers to achieve and exceed business objectives.
- The ideal candidate has qualifications / capabilities in an engineering discipline.
- Supervisor experience from within an ENGINEERING environment, preferably with manual and CNC equipment and associated tooling, and be able to use a combination of technical and leadership skills to focus the employees and deliver both a rapid and high-quality product to our laboratory.
- You will be self-driven and ambitious, with strong people management and team building skills.
- A good knowledge of typical Microsoft Office programmes is essential.
