The Army Aviation Centre (AACen) has a vacancy within Motor Transport Department (MT) for a driver. This is an exciting opportunity to become a member of the team at Middle Wallop, where the Army trains all its pilots, communication specialists and groundcrew!

As an MOD Civil Servant you will work alongside other civilians and military personnel and be part of the crew that keeps the British Army in the air.

We are advertising this vacancy at 37 hours per week

Job description

You will be required to carry out Driver Duties in support of Middle Wallop Station as directed by the Chain of Command and within current regulations. Drivers may be asked to work outside of their normal core hours.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY-

Carry out all driving duties as directed by the Transport Warrant Officer, Fleet Manager, Details Clerk and the in support of AACen and Sub units.

Drive a range of White Fleet Continuous Use vehicles and Green Fleet, as shown on the individuals local driving licence and Driving Licence Cat D1, supported with competency records (Primary Role).

Operate vehicles in accordance with Driver Standing Orders and comply with regulations concerning MOD drivers, ensuring:
a) All details are properly authorised.
b) No unauthorised passengers or loads are carried.
c) Vehicles are washed, cleaned and refuelled after each detail.
d) Vehicles are loaded correctly in accordance with regulations.
e) Vehicle is driven in accordance with the Highway Code and with due care and consideration to other road users.

Report any faults found on the vehicle in accordance with the unit Equipment Care guide and Driver Standing Orders.

Carry out any necessary actions laid down in MT Standing Orders in the event of a vehicle breakdown or involvement in a road traffic collision.

Carry out Before/Halt and After Use checks in accordance with the vehicles handbook, ensuring that the vehicle fit for task and roadworthy.

If required, undergo necessary training to operate vehicles held by MT Section, in accordance with the Defence General Service Driver Training package.

Undergo refresher training on vehicles that have not been driven regularly over the previous 12-month period.

Operate Drivers hours Records Cards in accordance with regulations.

When required, assist the White and Green Fleet offices with vehicle issue and receipts.

Person specification

We ask that you hold a full Cat B Licence and Cat D1 Licence as a minimum. Cat C, Cat C+E and Cat D licence would be desirable. As this is a driver role the successful candidate would be expected to be able to drive and operate all vehicles held in the MT.

The post does not offer relocation expenses.

External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
