Job Description
Position: Leading Change Project Worker Hours of Work: 15 hours Location: Based in Derry/Lderry Salary: £22,737 (£9,095 for 15 hours) - NJC scale Point 3 Fixed Term: To 31st October 2026 Reporting to: Area Manager Leave: 25 days plus statutory - pro rata Probationary Period: 6 Months Job Role: The project worker will support young people in our Leading Change programme which is funded by The National Lottery. The project worker will provide an additional support role to young people availing of our advocacy, mentoring, coaching and youth leadership programme. Drawing on their knowledge and experience of care, the project worker will support young people in co-designing training materials, and engage with key stakeholders and decision-makers. The project worker will support young people to build capacity, develop their leadership skills, and improve their self-awareness, confidence and self-esteem. Key Responsibilities: To effectively engage and communicate with care experienced young people and care leavers. To support participants in the Leading Change project to develop their leadership skills. To support the project team in the delivery of our youth leadership training programme and co-facilitate group activities. To support young people in co-designing peer led training materials. To support young people in delivering presentations and workshops that raise awareness of the experiences and issues facing care experienced young people. To work both independently and as part of the Leading Change project team. To assist in the monitoring and evaluation of the Leading Change Project. To participate in regular support and supervision. To work evenings and weekends as necessary It is essential that in your written application you give evidence or examples of your proven experience in each of the essential short-listing Criteria. Qualifications and Experience Applicants will have had a personal experience of being in care and have a good understanding of the issues for looked after children and care leavers. Desirable: Experience of volunteering/working with children or young people. Experience of user involvement and engaging with decision-makers. Knowledge A solid understanding of the issues that impact on children and young people in care or with care experience. Skills and Abilities An ability to engage and communicate with children and young people in care, or leaving care and support them to voice their views, wishes and feelings. Ability to advocate and influence, on issues related to children and young people in care and leaving care. An ability to communicate with key people involved in young peoples and care leavers lives. Promotes respect for all people. Has written, verbal and ICT communication skills. Circumstances Ability to work outside normal working hours when required.
