Children's Specialist Speech and Language Therapist - Band 6

Join our dynamic Mainstream Schools Team on a 12-month Fixed Term contract and work collaboratively with school staff to support children with diverse speech, language, and communication needs. What You’ll Do
As part of our team, you’ll provide specialist assessment, therapy, and support to children and young people (CYP) with speech, language, and communication needs, helping them to thrive within their educational setting. Key responsibilities include:

Assessment and Therapy: Conduct specialized assessments and deliver targeted interventions for children with diverse needs, including Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), speech sound difficulties, and selective mutism.
*
Collaboration and Support: Work directly with CYP in individual and group settings, offering advice and strategies to school staff and parents to enhance communication outcomes. Engage in ongoing communication with parents and multidisciplinary professionals to create cohesive support networks for each child.
*
Training and Development: Provide training for allocated schools, equipping school staff with the skills and knowledge to support children with speech and language needs. Play a role in project work that drives innovation and excellence in our service delivery.
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking an enthusiastic, skilled Speech and Language Therapist who:

Has experience working with children and young people with Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN) in educational settings.
*
Is committed to fostering collaborative relationships with school staff, parents, and other professionals.
*
Is comfortable working independently and making professional decisions while also supporting colleagues and contributing to team learning.
Education/Qualification
Essential criteria
*
Degree or equivalent and Licence to Practice – Royal College of Speech/Language Therapists
*
Current registered membership of HPC and RCSLT
*
RCSLT NQP competencies completed. (Desirable)
Experience
Essential criteria
*
Working with children with a wide range of speech, language and communication difficulties – including ASD, DLD, selective mutism and speech sound disorders
*
Collaborative work with parents and other professionals, especially teachers in a school setting
*
Training others
*
Working in multi-cultural community (Desirable)
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
*
Normal Child Development including Speech and Language, Play and other milestones
*
Knowledge of appropriate range of assessments and interventions for pre-school & school-aged children with speech, language and communication impairments
*
Holistic view of communication problems in the context of education and philosophy to back this
*
Religious, Cultural and Linguistic issues impacting upon caseload management
*
Understanding of the roles of other professionals (relevant to the client group)
*
Deal with conflict – good negotiation and problem-solving skills
*
Ability to deal with and resolve conflict.
*
Knowledge of collaborative models of working in schools (Desirable)
