Location: Kingston, KT3 3HY

Salary: £35,425 - £46,143 per annum inclusive of London Weighting Allowance

Hours: 36 hours per week, all year round (39 working weeks)

The College is an Outstanding Specialist College (Ofsted, November 2019) offering life-changing learning opportunities to young people and adults with a range of special education needs and/or disabilities. They have eight vibrant community based College Centres across London and Surrey where committed, specialist teams deliver a range of programmes to meet the needs of over 400 students.

The Role

They are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and innovative Lecturer, who specialises in PMLD/ASD, to join their dedicated and welcoming team. You will plan differentiated work to meet the needs of individuals and groups promoting progression, continuity and quality of learning by having clear intentions for their students learning. You should be able to accurately access need, deliver teaching reflective of need and measure progress with a determination to positively impact on the lives of their pupils. Lessons are carefully planned and take into account the needs, interests and abilities of all students so that learning is more purposeful and engaging.

You will have or be working towards a Diploma in Education and Training or equivalent, and recent Outstanding/Good teaching experience with students with special needs.

The Lecturer will be expected to work in collaboration with allied professionals. This will include:

Joint provision with therapists, personnel from Social Services, Health and Education.
Liaising with parents, carers, advocates and volunteers.
Receiving visitors and facilitating interactions between students and visitors during sessions.

Key Responsibilities

Effective planning of teaching/learning within designated curriculum areas.
Implementing appropriate assessment, objective setting, recording, reporting and evaluation of educational programmes.
Ensuring that student learning experiences are organised in a progression which supports the development of the individual.
To demonstrate a commitment to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults.
Ensuring that equipment/materials required for teaching/learning are safe and appropriate.
Responsibility for the identification and ordering of equipment within curriculum area budget.
Commitment to upholding the ethos of The Hill College and Academy Trust as an educational provision, which ensures that the dignity of the learner and the relationships between staff and students is positive and responsive.
Responsibility for the development, review, clarification, documentation and publication of designated curriculum areas.
Effective management and supervision of team members, including whenever necessary, volunteers, students and visitors.
Skills and Qualifications

Must hold a Certificate of Education (CertEd) on appointment, or an alternative equivalent teaching qualification, or currently be undertaking or willing to undertake the Certificate of Education (CertEd).
Must hold level 2 Maths and English qualifications or be willing to enrol on their internal functional skills course within your first year of employment and complete the course within 2 years.
Recent Outstanding/Good teaching experience with students with special needs.
Able to demonstrate effective planning of educational programmes for adults with special needs.
Able to implement appropriate assessment, objective setting, recording, reporting and evaluation of educational programmes.
Able to communicate effectively with students, carers and professionals.
Able to initiate development in designated curriculum areas.
Able to manage and direct teaching teams.
Able to co-ordinate and implement programmes of staff development internally and externally.
Able to communicate a commitment to the view that students with special needs can and do achieve.
Able to work successfully with students who may exhibit challenging behaviour.
Able to demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and to promote and comply with the College’s
Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity and Health and Safety Policies.
