Job Description
An opportunity has arisen within the Governance, Projects and Collaboration function for a Projects Officer role based at the Central Headquarters, at our Eyre Street premises in Sheffield. The team are currently working to an Agile Working rota, with some days in the office and some working from home.
Projects Officer
Contract: Fixed Term - 12 months, estimated until the end of December 2025
Salary: Grade 7 (£35,235 – £37,938)
Hours: Full Time - 37 Hours per week (Flexi Time)
Work Pattern: Mon – Fri
Location: Sheffield Central Headquarters (CHQ) & Agile working
The overall purpose of the role will be to effectively support the management of internal and external projects for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue. You must have a thorough understanding of the project lifecycle, to manage relevant service improvement processes like project support and governance, to drive service-wide service improvement in line with executive and audit requirements.
To be considered for this role you will have previous experience of project and administration work, and proven experience of working in an accurate efficient manner to tight deadlines.
You will work in a small team to support project management, working closely with project managers to guide them to effectively use project methodology, project reporting and to evaluate projects using a benefits realisation approach.
You must possess the interpersonal skills to work with staff across the service, as well have the ability to plan, prioritise and organise to deadlines. You will need to be confident to work with staff across the organisation, including facilitating workshop and project group meetings.
Alongside your project support duties you will possess a flexible approach to work to help the wider Information, Projects and Governance team as required. This includes monitoring the service’s policy updates, managing service improvement processes, and providing administration support to suitable boards, committees and groups.
New starters will commence on the bottom of the salary grade and will receive increases to the top of the grade on an incremental basis. We offer 28 days annual leave (pro-rata) plus Bank Holidays. Annual leave increases after 5 years’ service to 32 days, followed by an extra day a year up to a maximum of 37 days. We also operate a generous flexi time attendance scheme.
Other benefits include; a cycle 2 work scheme, a free on site gym, enhanced maternity and paternity schemes and the opportunity to join the Local Government Pension Scheme.

Interviews will be held week commencing 9th December, with a provisional interview date of Wednesday 11 December 2024.
