The Rheumatology & Gastroenterology medical team fosters a dynamic, engaging and collaborative working environment, where innovation is welcomed. The team consists of medical doctors, pharmacists and colleagues with life sciences backgrounds. We work closely with Pfizer cross functional teams (colleagues from other departments) to deliver on projects, spanning a wide variety of activities, that utilize our scientific expertise in the field of Rheumatology & Gastroenterology. The rewarding work undertaken directly aims to improve medicines access and scientific information to both patients and our healthcare partners. This ultimately requires medical affairs colleagues to become close and trusted partners with healthcare professionals, patients advocacy groups and other stakeholders.
The current Rheumatology & Gastroenterology portfolio consists of exciting inline, early launch and pipeline assets, which significantly impact patient lives. Multiple opportunities exist for undergraduates to gain experience across the breadth of medical affairs competencies.
The purpose of the undergraduate role is ultimately to gain a broad insight into the pharmaceutical industry, and meet experts working across a wide range of departments. The opportunity to work cross-functionally, with other teams, offers an insight into the different career opportunities industry has to offer.

You will develop a multitude of skills including:
- Communication and interpersonal skills through liaising with colleagues and external stakeholders
- Organisational and project management skills through working on a variety of projects
- Presentation skills by discussing your work at meetings
- Teamwork skills through your role in various matrix teams
- Project Management: Assist the Medical Affairs team with key projects and deliverables aligned with the medical strategy. This will include supporting and delivering projects for both internal and external stakeholders. For instance, this may include projects relating to data analysis and presentation, investigator initiated research (ISR), clinical trials, non-interventional studies, database studies and registries.
- Research Skills: Help the Medical Affairs team to stay abreast of relevant published literature and developments, by reviewing and summarising key information
- Scientific Expertise: You will develop in-depth scientific knowledge of Rheumatology & Gastroenterology, and across the Pfizer Rheumatology & Gastroenterology portfolio (including pipeline assets)
- Compliance: Training will be provided on the Association of British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) Code of practice and Pfizer standard operating procedures (SOPs). You will compile relevant case studies and keep up to date with relevant industry regulations, to maintain the teams knowledge
- Training: Supporting educational teams with the training of field colleagues on scientific medical data
- Culture & Organisational Leadership: Multiple opportunities exist for undergraduates to get involved in Pfizer cultural enhancing projects, such as; Volunteering Days, STEM outreach and engagement, Sustainabilty programs and Diversity & Inclusion initiatives
Type of person we are looking for, in relation to Skills, Knowledge and Motivation:
- Must be studying for a Degree and taking Industrial Placement as part of degree course or taking gap year
- On target for a Degree Classification in a Medical, Pharmacy or Science degree
- Able and self-assured to challenge the status quo
- Reliable and able to meet deadlines
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
- Ability to use initiative and work effectively in a team environment
- Strong Science, Maths and English skills
- Confidence to liaise with Pfizer personnel at all levels
- Ability to generate creative and innovative ideas
- Excellent interpersonal skills, tenacity and the ability to democratically voice opinions
- Expertise with a range of software (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and digital communication tools (e.g. apps, websites, social media).
