Job Description

Conrad Energy is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Graduate to join our dynamic trading team. In this role, you will optimise our portfolio on our 24/7 power trading desk by analysing market data, executing trading strategies, and contributing to the daily operations of the trading department.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to gain hands-on experience in the power trading sector, working in a fast-paced environment where your contributions directly impact our trading performance.

The Job

The successful candidate will develop skills for trading in prompt commodity markets in the UK, trading the Conrad portfolio of 900MW of flexible power stations located around the country.

You will be responsible for extracting the maximum profit from the portfolio by transacting in the UK within day power and gas markets. The role will include trading solar and wind portfolios and optimising battery storage scheduling and dispatch in the prompt power markets.

You will be responsible for monitoring the real-time performance of our generation fleet and will work in close collaboration with the operations function in coordinating power station availability.

You will work as part of a small team of eight shift traders within the trading function and will be required to work on a shift rotation basis once training is complete including weekends and overnights. You will hold full responsibility for operation of the trading desk in all prompt markets. The role is based in Conrad HQ, located in Abingdon, just outside of Oxford.

We are a rapidly growing business with strong emphasis on developing talent in a relaxed and supportive environment and all applicants receive training to develop their knowledge and skills around the UK energy markets.

About Conrad Energy Ltd

Our energy solutions directly address the energy trilemma (security, sustainability and affordability), enabling the UKs transition to a low carbon economy. Each of our projects deliver critical power and services to the National Grid as well as industrial and commercial customers. Our expertise, technology and flexibility are key to the UK achieving its ambitious net zero targets.

Backed by I Squared Capital, a global investor in energy and infrastructure assets, we are the UKs largest owner/operator of flexible power plants with 900MW in operation and over 1GW in early pipeline. Put into context, this means we could provide power for an hour to around 1.8 million homes already, with another 2 million homes in the pipeline.

From our beginnings in 2017 as a flexible gas generation business with a team of 14 people, we have grown to become one of the UKs leading vertically integrated energy companies, owning and operating over 65 energy facilities across the UK. Our significant development pipeline covers flexible generation, battery energy storage, solar, hydrogen and stability services. Our innovative data driven, in-house automation tools give us a unique edge when trading and maximising our own assets and those of our clients. We have built not only an impressive portfolio of energy assets, but also a seriously ambitious and knowledgeable team.
