Job Description
Chartwells is a part of the wider Compass Group family, and we are looking for a Marketing Manager to join our team at Northumbria University. We work in partnership with our clients to deliver the best university experience with our hospitality and event catering, for all students and faculty.
The Marketing Manager will own our brand onsite, playing a crucial role in driving sales with a strategic approach to customer profiling, targeted communication plans and an engaging, innovative events calendar across both city and coach lane campus.
We love food, love great events and are passionate about delivering the best.

The salary for this role is £30,000 per annum.

- Ensure adherence to central team guidelines, whilst maintaining Northumbria University’s unique sense of self. It’s a part of our students’ experience - bait and banter, we’re Northern and proud.
- Support the operational teams with installs and operational delivery to make sure that our outlets are looking their best for customers and are compliant for brand audits.
- Work within EDI guidelines. We don’t want to hit the minimum requirements; we want best practice in inclusivity and accessibility. We are here to provide a great experience for everyone, no matter their needs.
- Work with your counterparts across the Chartwells estate and wider Compass Group to collaborate and innovate.
- Ensure all company-wide promotions and new products are implemented correctly across site, supporting our kitchen and operational teams with the onboarding and ‘go-live’ process.
- Implement existing food pop-up concepts to our outlets and develop new ideas and partnerships to ensure our offer is fresh, relevant and on-trend. Maximise engagement from faculty and students at temporary events.
- Develop an innovative Events and Engagement plan to enhance and deepen customer relationships with our outlets and brand.
- Work with our Contract Director to analyse and understand our customers across the university audience.

Essential
- Relevant experience in a marketing position.
- Creative and innovative approach, with enthusiasm for all things marketing.
- Ability to produce and interpret campaign data and performance reports.
- Experience in Canva or equivalent.
- Demonstrable experience in working to targets.
- A passion for great customer experiences.
- Organised approach to work and scheduling, with ability to be pragmatic when needed.
- An understanding of different marketing channels and how to use them to their full advantage.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced environment whilst maintaining a positive attitude.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills.
- A strong interest in F&B, retail and events.
Desirable
- Previous experience in F&B or hospitality marketing role.
- Knowledge of the contract catering sector.
- Knowledge of the university sector.
