Electrical/Electronic Laboratory Technician

Location: RG7 4PR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking.

Package: From £31,000 (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)

Working pattern: AWE operates a 9-day working fortnight. We will consider flexible working requests so that your work may fit in with your lifestyle. Just let us know your preferred working pattern on your application.

Let us introduce the role

AWE has an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Technician to join our Technology Development Group, bringing their experience to AWE and to successfully playing a key role in delivering for our customers.

Working within our Plasma Diagnostic Support Team, you'll be assisting with the assembly and testing of bespoke hardware and supporting engineers and scientists with conducting laboratory experiments.

On a day-to-day basis, you will apply and hone your skills, working in accordance with task instructions in a safe and effective manner whilst maintaining a clean, safe, and secure environment within the laboratory.

Orion - the largest and most powerful laser system and experimental facility for high-energy density physics in the UK.

Orion delivers high-quality output to a demanding user programme. It recreates physical conditions in the lab like those found in the heart of the sun, with its high-power laser beamlines, all housed in a building the size of a football pitch!

Who are we looking for?

Whilst not to be considered a tick list, we'd like you to have experience in some of the following:

  • Practical Electrical/Electronic qualification(s) and/or experience in maintaining, fault finding, repairing electrical systems down to modular level

  • Working in a laboratory/workshop environment

  • Use of testing and measuring equipment, such as digital multimeters, oscilloscopes etc

Important things you need to know:

  • You will need to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role. This will be funded by AWE. The nature of our work does mean you need to be a British Citizen who has been resident in the UK for the past 5 years in order to apply for SC clearance and 10 years for DV
