JOB DESCRIPTION

BHE GT&S has an exciting summer internship opportunity for a rising Junior or Senior majoring in Engineering within our Pipeline Integrity Department at our White Oaks General Office located in Bridgeport, WV.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will provide support to Pipeline Integrity:
  • Explore the foundational engineering analysis aspects of natural gas transmission pipelines in the areas of cathodic protection.
  • Participate in the engineering review of natural gas transmission pipeline safety and compliance measures.
  • Review and evaluate industry trade group research information associated with the natural gas transmission industry.
  • Participate in engineering data review of corrosion control measures of natural gas pipelines and evaluation of pipelines to determine long term serviceability.

Individuals must have a desire to learn and produce as part of a safety conscious workplace. An independent source of transportation for this summer 2025 internship is needed as there is limited public transportation options in the area.

Your summer internship will be a minimum of 8 weeks on site (June 2 - July 25). Please note: the internship could be extended for up to 11 weeks considering your summer schedule and the needs of the business, so a start date prior to June 2 and/or end date past July 25 could be a possibility.

Successful candidates who are 50 miles or more from the assigned work location may be eligible for a one-time housing stipend.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Must be a rising Junior or Senior as of summer of 2025.
  • Currently be enrolled in a 4 year ABET accredited Engineering Bachelor's degree program.
  • Must have a 2.5 GPA or higher (3.0 preference).
  • Excellent computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to create and work with Word/Excel spreadsheet and reports.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment or independently.
  • Good planning and organizing skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to assist in performing preventative equipment maintenance activities as required.
  • Preliminary work experience demonstrating knowledge of equipment and repair.
  • Analytical and deductive reasoning skills, oral/written communication skills, technical writing skills, electrical/mechanical skill/mathematical skills.
  • Ability to analyze/troubleshoot/solve equipment or process problems.
  • Ability to conduct site inspections or walk downs, including working at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to maintain drawing and configuration documentation as related to repairs and modification.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools, basic measuring and testing equipment, and small power tools.
  • Ability to articulate technical subject matter both verbally and written.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations.
  • Good communications and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated and have a strong work ethic.
  • Prefer students with active participation in a university engineering organization, especially, in a leadership role.
  • Must currently hold a valid driver's license.

Education

Currently enrolled in a 4 year ABET accredited Engineering Bachelor's degree program.

Candidate must be at least a rising Junior or Senior by summer 2025.

Candidates must have a 2.5 GPA or higher (Preference 3.0 GPA or higher)
