Overview:
Location: Mercy Hospital St. Francis - Moutain View, MO
Shift Schedule: 6:30p-7a
The Registered Polysomnographic Technologist performs and processes Sleep Studies on adult and pediatric patients greater than five years of age. This individual collects relevant clinical history pertinent to test interpretation, sets up and calibrates instrumentation, prepared the patient, and subsequently performs the sleep monitoring procedure. Also performs collected data “scoring” and subsequent computer processing in preparation for physician interpretation of the sleep study. Performs related duties assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent, although some college level biological science coursework or degree is preferred.
- Licensure: American Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists Registry
- Experience: Minimum of one (1) year sleep lab experience, including completion of a minimum of one hundred (100) sleep studies.
Certifications: BLS is required upon hire. ACLS, NRP, PEARS or PALS must be obtained within 90 days of hire - Skills, knowledge and abilities:
- Must exhibit technical skills and knowledge correlative with training and experience gained by completing the Polysomnographic Technologist Registry.
- The ability to deal with the severely ill patient is required. Responsible for obtaining standard as well as special procedure polysomnographic recordings. Pays close attention to details, both technical and practical. Must be able to serve as a resource technologist to lower classification PSG Technicians, including performance of training and education functions.
- Adherence to departmental Quality Assurance (Performance Improvement) program is required.
- Working conditions, mental and physical requirements: Required to provide call coverage on a scheduled basis. May be intermittently required to perform procedures on weekends and holidays. May also be required to work on alternate shifts, in order to perform daytime multiple sleep latency tests, etc.
- Equipment used: Sleep Disorder’s Center’s lab instrumentation and system computers
- Preferred Education: Some college level biological science coursework or degree is preferred.
