Job Description

Manpower Recruitment have teamed up with an established College in Oxford City Centre.


We are recruiting for a Full Time Caretaker, working Monday-Friday basis (Some flexibility needed with later shifts and occasional weekends with college needs and busier times)


Experience with Basic DIY, Plumbing and Electrics would be beneficial, alongside a Driving Licence, but not essential.


The role is paying £28000pa


Job purposes

The Caretaker will ensure that the College premises maintained to a high standard and that

health and safety compliance are constantly met.


Main duties and responsibilities

1. To assist in the day-to-day up-keep of the college premises.


2. To oversee the opening-up and locking-up procedure of all buildings.


3. To maintain the external presentation of the premises (this involves ensuring that the pavement and parking area are clear of litter, signage, graffiti, etc and that bikes are not blocking fire exits).


4. To oversee the internal presentation of the building by liaising with cleaners, ensuring that standards are high, and regularly checking each floor and room.


5. To ensure that equipment is maintained by regularly performing checks of open plan areas, office, and classroom areas, ensuring clocks are accurate and where necessary and appropriate testing other equipment such as interactive whiteboards, TVs, etc).


6. To lift, move and rearrange equipment and furniture in line with the college objectives and the requests of the Site Manager.


7. To report any necessary extra cleaning requirements to the Site Manager.


8. To carry out maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, taking meter readings, testing the water temperature.


9. To conduct regular fire drills and to keep an accurate log of these including time, date, and time it takes to evacuate the building. To ensure that the log is always fit for inspection.


10. To carry out weekly fire testing and keep an accurate log of the procedure including time, date and any issues that arise. To ensure that all the necessary data is recorded so that the logbook is fit for inspection at all times.


11. To regularly inspect fire exits routes and to ensure they are clear of obstructions.


12. To carry out regular emergency lighting tests and keep an accurate log of the procedure including time, date and any issues that arise.


13. To ensure that waste is disposed of appropriately and to liaise with the Site Manager on this point, especially in relation to bulbs and batteries.


14. To research replacement parts of items or equipment and to suggest purchasing or get approval for purchasing.


15. To carry out any other reasonable task as requested by the Site Manager. In terms of Child protection, safeguarding and Health and Safety all staff are expected to: · Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact; · Maintain good order and discipline among the students and safeguard their health and safety both when they are on college premises and when they are engaged in authorised college trips or activities; · Liaise with the designated safeguarding lead if a concern arises; · Understand and uphold the Government’s statutory guidelines of ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ in accordance with the college’s policies and procedures.


Person Specification

· Good English.

· Good verbal and written communication skills

· Excellent time management skills with a degree of flexibility required – for example the post holder will be required to provide additional cover when necessary (there are likely to be occasions where evening or weekend work will be needed).

· Good IT skills.

· Good and accurate record keeping. · Able to work collaboratively and on own initiative.

· Able to prioritise and respond effectively to new challenges at short notice.


Personal qualities

· Positive “can-do” attitude.

· Ability to fix things. · Eager to learn.

· Flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities.
