Doctoral Position in Econometrics (m/f/x)
Job Location
Job Description
Your tasks and responsibilities:
You will join the Chair of Statistics and Econometrics team in Munich. You will be involved in research projects of the group, but will also develop your own research agenda, and complete your doctoral thesis in econometrics. You will engage in teaching tasks such as leading tutorials and participating in the supervision of thesis work. In addition, you will contribute to the academic self-administration of the econometrics group.
You are encouraged to separately apply to the Munich Graduate School of Economics (MGSE) at https://www.econ.lmu.de/en/faculty/mgse/index.html (deadline: January 31, 2025). Applicants who are accepted into the MGSE will benefit from a structured PhD program and will then be able to work on their dissertation at the Chair of Statistics and Econometrics once the MGSE coursework is completed. However, application to the MGSE is not required and applicants with a sufficiently advanced background may directly be considered for the doctoral position at the chair without completing the MGSE coursework.
Your qualifications:
· You have a degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field.
· A strong background in mathematics, probability, and statistics is essential.
· Excellent statistical programming skills (e.g. in R) are desired.
· You are able to prove mathematical and statistical results such as asymptotic
properties of estimators and tests.
· Excellent spoken and written English is required.
What we offer:
You will be part of a stimulating research environment at LMU which will support your personal development and your research through individual supervision, the possibility to take graduate-level courses, research reading groups, and a variety of research-related events like seminars and workshops.
You will receive individual career support, be able to participate in training programs and to present your research at international conferences.
Both full- and part-time arrangements are possible. The position is initially fixed-term for 3 years, but may be extended. The desired start date is Oct 1, 2025, but other start dates may be possible.
People with disabilities who are essentially equally qualified will receive preferential treatment.
Your application:
We look forward to receiving your online application. Please submit your motivation letter, CV, transcripts, and a list of courses taken, including a list of topics for each course, via email in a single pdf file to Martina Brunner (martina.brunner@lmu.de). In addition, we require at least one (ideally more) reference letter to be sent to Martina Brunner by the referee.
Applications will be evaluated from 01.02.2025, but applications received later may be considered if the position has not yet been filled. For any questions, please contact Martina Brunner.
